The Huanacaxtle Cross owes its name to a tree-shaped Huanacaxtle Cross at the entrance of the People. The legend of the place said that after the body of an Indian woman was buried at the base of a giant tree Huanacaxtle, in tribute to her, she carved a large cross in the trunk of the tree, and people began to say, "We meet in the cross Huanacaxtle."
